Episode 150: Developing Business Communities Using Cloud Software with Eric Schmidt of Glue Up

Eric Schmidt, Co-Founder and CEO at Glue Up, thinks entrepreneurs can improve their success through communities and interactions. A move to China made him realize the need for technology to grow communities with other business leaders. The pandemic transformed his product from a nice-to-have to a must-have for business associations and chambers of commerce.

Setting up a business in a different country throws out all you’ve learned in the US market. Schmidt shares that in Asia, it was very fast-paced, with businesses relying on day-to-day decisions. This required massive familiarity with the environment as well as flexibility to adapt. One key differentiator was that purchases leaned heavily towards trust over product. This was how business communities were vital, as they built lasting relationships.

Schmidt believes a great product can sell itself, but it has to be developed with customers at its core. He believes that, for founders of B2B software companies, trying to solve problems by their experiences is more likely to be successful.

Schmidt thinks that B2B cloud software and mobile apps will continue to be significant, even as the pandemic wanes. The product will need to focus on continuing the relationship even after that face-to-face meeting.

Business leaders looking to gain an edge in gaining experience and building relationships through communities will find this interaction extremely beneficial.
